Adam and Eve

1994 - 68"x49"

The Adam and Eve quilt was liberally adapted from a l7th century embroidery which in turn was adapted from a l6th century frontispiece in a Bible. It is thought that the Bible frontispiece is a derivative of a Venetian illustration from l492. Many changes have been made through the centuries from drawing to Bible to embroidery to quilt, but the positions of the camels has stayed the same.

I was embroidering around Eve on Christmas Eve l992 at the very moment that our granddaughter was born.
